BMI Songwriters Rihanna & Nicki Minaj Take the Lead in American Music Award Nominations
Rihanna and Nicki Minaj lead the list of 2012 American Music Award nominees with four nods each. Rihanna is up for Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist in the Pop/Rock category, Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B, and Favorite Album – Soul/R&B for “Talk That Talk.”
Minaj also competes for Favorite Female Artist in the Pop/Rock category, as well as receiving nominations for Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop, and Favorite Album in both the Rap/Hip-Hop and Pop/Rock categories for “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.”
Also receiving multiple accolades are Maroon 5, Drake, and One Direction with three nominations each, and J. Cole, fun, Gotye, Pitbull, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Chris Brown with two each.
In all, BMI writers account for 47 of the 68 nominations spanning 19 categories of Pop, Rock, Rap/Hip Hop, Soul/R&B, Country, Contemporary Inspirational, and Latin Music.
