Underwood & Lambert Make History as BMI Artists Dominate ACM Awards

Posted in News on April 19, 2010

Carrie Underwood became the only woman ever to earn two Entertainer of the Year trophies last night during the 45th annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, with her second consecutive win in the coveted field. The elated Underwood also received the Triple Crown Honor thanks to her previous wins in Entertainer, Top Female Vocalist, and Top New Female Vocalist categories.

Miranda Lambert also enjoyed an historic night, with her first Top Female Vocalist win and Album of the Year honors for her latest, Revolution. Subsequently, Lambert became the first solo female artist to ever win two ACM Album of the Year prizes.

Lady Antebellum underscored their chart-topping dominance with big wins for their hit “Need You Now,” co-written by Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley. The smash garnered both Single Record and Song of the Year honors, while the trio also walked away with a Top Vocal Group win.

Luke Bryan garnered the Top New Artist crown, while Top Vocal Duo went to perennial favorites Brooks & Dunn, who are in the midst of their farewell tour. Blake Shelton’s “Hillbilly Bone” claimed Vocal Event of the Year honors, and duo Montgomery Gentry were honored with the Home Depot Humanitarian Award in recognition of their participation in numerous initiatives, including supporting and entertaining the U.S. military, the T.J. Martell Foundation, Camp Horsin’ Around in Lexington, KY, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
