BMI’s Latin music leaders dominate the list of 2010 Latin Grammy nominees. Perennial favorite Juan Luis Guerra earned an impressive four nods, including Album of the Year for his acclaimed A Son de Guerra. Guerra will also vie for Best Contemporary Tropical Album and Best Tropical Song thanks to “Bachata en Fukuoka,” while he is the featured guest on Song of the Year nominee “Cuando Me Enamoro.”

Breakout stars Alex Cuba (SOCAN) and Jotdog (SACM) will compete for Best New Artist. Cuba’s eponymous album was also tapped in the Best Male Pop Vocal Album category. Nelly Furtado’s (SOCAN) Mi Plan, which features songs Furtado co-wrote with Cuba, is up for Best Female Pop Vocal Album.

In the urban field, Chino y Nacho’s Mi Niña Bonita will compete for Best Urban Music Album, as will Cartel De Santa’s Sincopa. Songwriters Eduardo Lopez and Eliezer Garcia placed two of their co-written gems in the Best Urban Song field: “Descontrol” and “Grito Mundial.” Don Omar’s “Hasta Abajo,” co-written by Omar and Eliel, was also tapped for Best Urban Song, as was “El Hornazo,” co-written by Eduardo Davalos and R. Latin rock thrived over the past year. Bohemia Suburbana’s self-titled release is up for Best Rock Album, while “Arena,” recorded and written by Chetes (SGAE), and “Cárcel,” co-written by Sebastián Franco, Jesús Herrera, Amauri Sepúlveda, Diego Suárez and Marcos Zavala, will vie for Best Rock Song.

The Regional Mexican genre continues to grow. Jenni Rivera’s La Gran Señora is up for Best Ranchero Album, while Banda El Recodo De Cruz Lizárraga’s Me Gusta Todo de Ti, Banda Los Recoditos’ ¡Ando Bien Pedo!, K-Paz De La Sierra’s Con Banda and La Original Banda El Limon De Salvador Lizarraga’s Soy Tu Maestro will compete in the Best Banda Album category. The Best Tejano Album field is also stacked: Little Joe & La Familia (A Night of Classics in El Chuco), Ruben Ramos & The Mexican Revolution (Revolutionized), Elida Reyna y Avante (Fantasia), and Sunny Sauceda y Todo Eso (Homenaje a Mi Padre) will all compete. In the Best Norteño Album race, nods went to Duelo (Solamente Tú), Grupo Pesado (Desde La Cantina Vol. 1), Intocable (Classic), Los Tigres Del Norte (La Granja), and Los Tucanes De Tijuana (Retro-Corridos). “Amarte a La Antigua,” co-written by Paco Lugo (SACM); Elida Reyna y Avante’s “Atrapada En Un Amor,” written by by Freddie Martinez; “Chaparrita,” written and recorded by Pepe Aguilar; and Intocable’s “No Puedo Volver,” written by Josué Contreras and Johnny Lee Rosas, were tapped for Best Regional Mexican Song.
