Jason Blume Songwriting Workshop: Nashville

BMI’s popular Songwriters’ Workshop Series in Nashville is held monthly under the tutelage of hit songwriter and best-selling author Jason Blume.
When: December, 16, 2014, January 6, February 24, March 17, 2015, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Where: BMI’s Nashville offices (10 Music Square East, Nashville, TN)
Who: Aspiring songwriters
Application deadline: No application necessary, but registration is required.
Fee: Free to all participants

BMI 101 Workshop: New York

BMI 101 is a one-hour introductory workshop for writers and publishers, covering the role that BMI plays in the music industry, basics of performing rights, and becoming a BMI affiliate.
When: November 20, December 18, 2014, 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Where: BMI’s New York office (7 World Trade Center, 250 Greenwich Street, 30th floor)
Who: Songwriters and Publishers
Admission is FREE! RSVP IS MANDATORY, AS SPACE IS LIMITED. If you do not RSVP, you WILL NOT be granted access.

BMI 101 Workshop: Los Angeles

BMI 101 is a one-hour introductory workshop for writers and publishers, covering the history of performing rights, the origins of BMI, and the current role that BMI plays in the music business.

Songwriters Hall of Fame Extends Deadline for Inaugural Song Competition

The deadline to enter the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s first-ever “Song Competition” has been extended to October 31, 2014! With valuable prizes that could immediately change the trajectory of your career, the competition is open to all amateur and professional songwriters and to Songwriters Hall of Fame members and non-members. Judged on melody, composition, originality and lyrics, entries will be screened by a Blue Ribbon Panel of industry professionals including legendary songwriters, producers and publishers. Hall of Fame inductees Mac Davis, Charles Fox and Lamont Dozier are on the panel to select the finalists.

International Songwriting Competition

Now in its 13th year, ISC is one of the largest and most respected annual international songwriting competitions in the world, providing the opportunity for songwriters to gain recognition and exposure in all genres in the field of songwriting. This year, ISC’s judging panel is comprised of high-profile recording artists and influential music industry professionals: Tom Waits; American Authors; Sara Evans; John Hiatt; Bastille; Monte Lipman (Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Republic Records); Dan McCarroll (President, Warner Bros. Records); Craig Kallman (Chairman and CEO, Atlantic Records); and many more.
When: Deadline to enter is November 4, 2014
Fee: $35 per entry
Who: Anyone of any age can enter ISC
Prize: Prizes include more than $150,000 in cash and merchandise, including a $25,000 cash Grand Prize and a scholarship to Berklee College of Music’s Summer Performance Program for the winner of the Teen category.

American Songwriter Lyric Contest

The American Songwriter Amateur Lyric Contest takes place six (6) times per year in conjunction with each issue of American Songwriter published.
Fee: $15 per lyric
Who: Contest is open to entrants in all countries.
Prize: First place winner receives a first class Gibson Guitar and a Shure SM58 Microphone.

John Lennon Songwriting Contest

The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is an international songwriting contest launched in 1997.
Fee: $30 per song
Who: Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters in any one of 12 categories.
Prize: Prizes are awarded for different levels of achievement, such as Finalist, Grand Prize, Lennon Award and Song of the Year.
