First profiled back in BMI’s Indie Spotlight back in February, Melbourne, Australia’s Hiatus Kaiyote were already making a name for themselves with their exotic blend of R&B and eclectic polyphonic poetry. Since then, the band released their sophomore album, Choose Your Weapon, in May, which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop chart, and 6th on the ARIA Australian Top 40 Albums chart. The album’s soulfully sensual song, “Breathing Underwater” earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B Performance. A seasoned live act, Hiatus Kaiyote performed over 160 concerts this past year in no fewer than 19 countries.
