Q: I’m not a resident or citizen of the US. Can I affiliate with BMI?

A: As long as you are not a member of any other performing rights organization in the world, you are free to affiliate with BMI if you believe you will be earning performance royalties.

Q: I am a member of a rights society in another country. How can BMI collect for me in the United States?

A: In order for BMI to represent your performance rights in the United States, you must have a BMI publisher or sub-publisher. There are exceptions to this rule. You should contact your society of membership for additional details.

Q: I am a member of a rights society in another country and have questions on my royalties.

A: Since you do not have a direct agreement with BMI, BMI can not provide distribution details. You should contact your society of membership.

Q: I am a member of a rights society in another country. I have an agreement with a BMI publisher in the United States. Do I have to join BMI to receive my royalties?

A: No. If you are a member of a foreign performing rights society and are published by a BMI publisher in the United States, BMI will pay royalties for logged performances to your society of membership.
