Taylor Swift, Adele and Nicki Minaj triumphed at the 2011 American Music Awards, held Sunday, November 20 at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. BMI songwriters took home 76% of the fan-voted trophies, illustrating the effervescent popularity of the BMI catalog with listeners in all formats.

Swift took home top Artist of the Year overall, as well as Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Album in the country field. Adele, who is a member of U.K. performing right society PRS but chooses BMI to represent her in the U.S, also scored three wins: Favorite Female Artist in both pop and adult contemporary categories, as well as top Pop or Rock Album for 21.

Minaj cleaned up in the traditionally male-dominated hip-hop world, earning Favorite Artist and best Rap/Hip-Hop Album. Other key women winners included Rihanna for top Soul/R&B Album and Jennifer Lopez for Favorite Latin Artist.

BMI artists also blanketed the country field. In addition to Swift, winners included Blake Shelton, who clinched Favorite Male Artist, and Lady Antebellum, who scored Favorite Band, Duo or Group.

Hot Chelle Rae underscored their breakout year with the Spring New Artist of the Year crown. Foo Fighters’ capped off critical acclaim with grassroots love, winning Favorite Alternative Rock artist, as did Maroon 5 with the Favorite Band, Duo or Group win in the pop/rock field. Casting Crowns walked away with Favorite Artist honors in the Contemporary Inspirational category.
