Latin Spotlight: ChocQuibTown
ChocQuibTown are a Pacific Coast trio who mix urban sounds with international rhythms and unique lyrics. The group is made up of Goyo, Tostao, and Slowmike, and their name is derived from the area in which they grew up. “The name ChocQuibTown is a made-up word, which isn’t in English or Spanish,” Tostao explained to National Geographic. “It’s an homage to the place we come from.” In 2010, they won a Latin GRAMMY for Canción Alternativa del Año (Alternative Song of the Year) for the song, “De Donde Vengo Yo,” and they also received Latin GRAMMY gold for their album, El Mismo. Since then, ChocQuibTown has collaborated with renowned artists like Wisin, Nicky Jam, Carlos Vives, and Alexis Play, and their most recent full-length project, ChocQuib House, dropped in 2020. They are currently featured on a song called “Midnight Boom” alongside Ir Sais and Afro B, while fan favorites like “Pa Olvidarte,” “DOSIS,” and “Nada” continue racking up streams.

El grupo está compuesto por Goyo, Tostao y Slowmike, y su nombre se deriva del barrio donde crecieron. “El nombre ChocQuibTown es una palabra inventada que no es inglés ni español”, Tostao explicó a National Geographic. “Es un homenaje al lugar de donde venimos”. En 2010 ganaron un Latin GRAMMY por Canción Alternativa del Año con la canción “De donde vengo yo”, y en 2015 recibieron el Latin GRAMMY por su álbum El mismo. Desde entonces, ChocQuibTown ha colaborado con artistas de renombre, como Wisin, Nicky Jam, Carlos Vives y Alexis Play, y su más reciente proyecto de larga duración, ChocQuib House, se lanzó en 2020.
