Broadcast Music, Inc. concluded another successful edition of the BMI stage at the 20th annual Lollapalooza festival in Chicago on August 4. The three-day music festival, which took place in Grant Park, presented a slew of buzzworthy acts known for emitting soulful sounds, acoustic balladry and pop-rock rhapsodies. In the past, the BMI stage has served as a superstar forecaster, showcasing performers such as Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Neon Trees, Cage the Elephant and the Sheepdogs. This year, a total of 21 performers took to the BMI stage, ranging from the moody melodies of Brooke Waggoner to the swagger of Chicago native Chance The Rapper.

On August 1, BMI, along with Matthew Leone, bassist for the Chicago band Madina Lake, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and Do312, co-hosted “The Launch,” a kick-off party to the festival that raised funds for Sweet Relief’s Chicago chapter, which, like its parent organization, provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems. The event, held at AAA Space, featured performances, open bar and food, a live DJ set and a silent auction of signed items donated by Lollapalooza artists Phoenix, Band of Horses, New Order, Postal Service and others.

Throughout the festival, BMI also served as one of the sponsors of the exclusive ck one Music Lounge, an official event series by BMF Media held at Chicago’s Hard Rock Hotel. Music-lovers and beauty-enthusiasts alike enjoyed this exciting, multi-day event where up-and-coming artists including BMI’s The Mowgli’s, Bear Mountain and Brick + Mortar performed in front of tastemakers, media and celebrities in an intimate setting. Guests enjoyed complimentary food, got touch-ups and sipped on refreshing cocktails as they took in the acoustic performances.
