BMI Honors Nine Burgeoning Songwriters on the ‘Rise’

Posted in News on April 16, 2009

Nine auspicious songwriters were honored at BMI’s second “Who’s Next? Writers on the Rise” cocktail reception, held April 14 at the Red Eye Grill (NYC). Honored songwriters poised to leave indelible marks on the music industry included “Disturbia” scribe Robert Allen; Danja endorsed Kevin Cossom; the Soul Diggaz’s Corte’ Ellis; troubadour Shawn Fisher, Capitol Records’ Jaicko, Atlantic Records writer Michael Warren; Island Def Jam signee Unique; The Soundkillers principal REO, and Universal /Motown ingénue Tina Parol. The honorees each received a Tiffany pen in recognition of their unique, risk-taking songwriting prowess, deserving of the ambitious moniker “Writers on the Rise”.

Similar to its inaugural event in 2007 honoring a then unknown Lady GaGa and Broadway’s Spring Awakening hit-makers Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, this year’s “Writers on the Rise” reception provided an up-close and personal introduction to some of BMI’s hottest songwriters working and creating in the music business.
