BMI Songwriters Triumph at Premios Juventud

BMI is once again very happy to congratulate its many Latin songwriter affiliates who were recognized, last night, at the 20th edition of Premios Juventud, which was held at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the second year in a row and broadcast live on Univision. Celebrating Spanish-speaking popular culture across multiple media, the Univision networks Premios Juventud winners are determined by fans who vote online.

Shakira was the biggest winner of the evening, taking home eight awards in total, including the trophies for Premios Juventud Female Artist, Best Song For My Ex, Girl Power, Best Urban Track, Best Pop/Urban Song, Best Pop/Urban Collaboration, Tropical Mix and Social Dance Challenge. Karol G collected five awards, notably ones for Girl Power, My Favorite Streaming Artist, Best Urban Track, Best Urban Album - Female and Best Pop/Urban Collaboration. Peso Pluma, meanwhile, also claimed five awards for Premios Juventud Male Artist, New Generation - Regional Mexican, Best Regional Mexican Song, Best Regional Mexican Collaboration and Best Regional Mexican Album.

In addition to the major categories, Shakira and Camila Cabello both received prestigious Agent of Change Awards, accolades bestowed to artists who use their heightened platforms to bring awareness to global issues like climate change and environmental justice.

Beyond the awards themselves, the ceremony featured several dynamic performances, including a rousing rendition of “Sabor Fresa” by Mexican-American band, Fuerza Regida, a massive, audience-participating version of “Ella Baila Sola” by Eslabón Armado, high-energy treks through “Hora De Salir” and “Un Cigarillo” by Checho Corleone, songs by La Materialista, RaiNao, Chiquis, CNCO, Wisin & Yandel, Sofia Reyes and so much more.
