BMI Salutes its Composers Invited to Join Oscar Voting

Posted in News on July 8, 2020

BMI is proud to announce that nine of our film composers and/or songwriters have been asked to join the voting body of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. The Oscars took this opportunity to extend invitations to 819 potential new members from across the different award categories represented in order to diversify the voting body and better reflect the rich variety of the global film community. If all 819 of those asked accept their invitations, 45% of the new members will be women and 36% will be from underrepresented ethnic/racial communities. The total number of members would then be 9,412, with an International make-up of 49% from 68 countries.

BMI thanks the Academy for this important step. Here is the list of BMI composers and songwriters who received invitations within the music category. Congratulations to all!

Tamar-Kali Brown – The Last Thing He Wanted, Mudbound

Joshuah Brian Campbell – Harriet

Chanda Dancy – After We Leave, Everything before Us
