The Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual champagne reception in association with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Music Branch Governors on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Eveleigh in West Hollywood. The gathering honored the nominees in the Best Score and Best Original Song categories for this year’s Academy Awards, which included BMI songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who won the 2018 Oscar for Best Original Song for “Remember Me” from Coco, making Robert Lopez the first-ever double EGOT winner; songwriters Taura Stinson for “Mighty River” from Mudbound; Common for “Stand up for Something” from Marshall; BMI composer John Williams, who was nominated for Best Original Score for Star Wars: The Last Jedi; PRS composer Jonny Greenwood, also up for his score for Phantom Thread; and SACEM composer Alexandre Desplat, who won the 2018 Oscar for Best Original Score for The Shape Of Water.
