McGraw, Peas Double Winners at AMAs

With two awards each, country superstar Tim McGraw and hip-hop outfit the Black Eyed Peas led the list of BMI winners at the 33rd Annual American Music Awards held November 22 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

McGraw, who was named Favorite Country Male Artist, saw his triple-platinum CD Live Like You Were Dying earn the Favorite Country Album nod. The Peas' two wins included Favorite Band, Duo or Group in both the pop/rock and rap/hip-hop categories.

Mariah Carey R. Kelly Brooks & Dunn

Comeback queen Mariah Carey picked up a trophy for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, while R. Kelly earned the same award in the male category.

Shakira Sugarland

Other BMI winners included country duo Brooks & Dunn, Latina rocker Shakira, rapper Eminem and newcomers Sugarland, who took home the coveted Breakthrough Artist award.

Nominations for the American Music Awards are based on sales figures and radio play, and winners are selected by a survey of about 20,000 listeners.
