The Road to ‘On Your Feet’:
Gloria & Emilio Estefan Talk Life, Love & Music

Part 1: Gloria and Emilio talk On Your Feet and the history of Miami Sound Machine

Part 2: Gloria and Emilio share personal accounts of their musical journey and creative process

An enduring romance entwined with some of the most memorable songs of the past thirty years, the story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan’s life together is one filled with love, creativity, resilience, and, of course, music. From their beginnings as a wedding band to the internationally chart-topping Miami Sound Machine and beyond, the couple sewed their lives, loves and rich Cuban heritage into songs like “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “1-2-3,” “Coming Out of the Dark,” “Words Get in The Way” and countless others. Their songwriting meshed the rhythms and passion of Latin music with the colors and flavors of pop, dance music and balladry into a brand new sound that resounded the world over.

In spite of their achievements, the couple remains strikingly humble and grounded. “Music in my life, and in Emilio’s life, as well,” Gloria Estefan tells BMI in this candid interview, “has been one of those things that has gotten us through the toughest of times.” Discussing those very challenges, BMI’s Executive Director of Content and Communications, Juliet Simon, recently had the opportunity to sit down with the inimitable singer-songwriter and BMI Icon and her multiple GRAMMY-winning songwriter/producer husband. In these two exclusive videos, hear this legendary duo open up about their creative process, extraordinary career, inspirations and the Broadway musical based on their remarkable story, On Your Feet.
