BMI composers Thomas Newman and Brian Tyler lent their expert conducting skills in helping to honor the work of artist Drew Struzan during a concert entitled “The Magnificent Movie Poster World of Drew Struzan.” The event, which took place at Royce Hall in Westwood, CA, was produced by Robert Townson and Varès Live, and featured several classic film scores as Struzan’s legendary movie posters were edited into beautiful visual montages displayed on a large screen behind the orchestra. Among the scores performed live by the Golden State Pops Orchestra was renowned composer Thomas Newman’s music for The Shawshank Redemption, which he himself conducted after being introduced by the film’s director Frank Darabont. Award-winning composer Brian Tyler conducted John Williams’ music for Raiders of the Lost Ark, as well as Stellaire by the late Georges Delerue, while BMI Vice President Film, TV & Visual Media Relations Doreen Ringer-Ross was proudly in attendance in support of the special event.
