Ten Composers Selected for Inaugural BMI Composer Lab
BMI is excited to share that ten composers have been selected to take part in the first BMI Composer Lab, a one-of-a-kind program designed to foster a new generation of voices in media music. Chosen from a pool of applicants based on their submitted work, the participating composers are Andrew Asemokai, KaMan Chang, Ishaan Chhabra, Sadie Currey, Natasha Frank, Emiliano Mazzenga, Catherine Nguyen, Tan Onwimon, Kevin Smithers and Ishaan Tyagi.
Overseen by composer Peter Golub, former Director of the Sundance Film Music Program and Tracy McKnight, BMI’s VP Creative, Film, TV & Visual Media, the Lab will nurture the skills of its participants to advance and thrive in the field of music for visual media. The program includes mentorship by some of today’s leading composers. Capping off the Lab will be recording sessions at Bandrika Studio with the Hollywood Cinematic Orchestra.
Online sessions will be held August 11-22, and in-person sessions will take place in Los Angeles from September 18–26.
Congratulations to all!
