Legendary BMI songwriter Mike Stoller and his wife, pianist, harpist and singer, Corky Hale were honored with Nica Lifetime Achievement Awards at the “Give the Band a Hand” fundraising gala for the California Jazz Foundation, held April 25 in LA. The charitable nonprofit organization was created to aid and assist California jazz musicians in financial or medical crisis. President of the Foundation, Edythe L. Bronston, presented the pair with the prestigious awards for their “significant and far-reaching philanthropic work and astounding musical output.” Stoller and Hale were introduced by Basketball Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor and his wife Elaine during the gala, which featured performances by Steve Tyrell, Sally Kellerman, Artie Butler, Carol Robbins, and others.
