Making Music and More with Lil Jon

Posted in News on November 12, 2019

In the fast-paced, constantly shifting game of hip-hop, career longevity can be an elusive thing. One versatile rapper, writer, producer and DJ to have kept active and stayed more than relevant is Atlanta’s own titan of Crunk, Lil Jon.

Since first exploding onto the scene in 1997, Lil Jon has been busily cranking out enduring singles like “Get Low,” “Goodies,” “Cyclone,” “Freek-A-Leek,” Turn Down For What,” and others that have brought a gritty, hardcore hip-hop edge to the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and earned multiple GRAMMY-nominations and a GRAMMY-win in 2005 for the ubiquitous hit “Yeah” with Usher and Ludacris… Beyond his music, punctuated by his inimitably bawdy catch phrases and resonant voice, Lil Jon is a seriously focused and driven creative force, branching out into acting, commercials and philanthropic ventures to help children in underdeveloped nations. BMI’s Associate Director, Creative Reggie Stewart, recently sat down with the busy multi-hyphenate to find out how he first got started, what his creative process is like, and how he still keeps it all crunk.
