The BMI composer behind the brilliant (and very memorable) scores to Mission: Impossible, Dirty Harry, Voyage of the Damned and Cool Hand Luke, in addition to many other popular films and TV series, was celebrated with an honorary Oscar Sunday night by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Governors Award recognizes the careers of a select few entertainment veterans who have not yet won an Academy Award by bestowing them with an honorary Oscar statuette. Recipients are voted on by the Academy’s board of governors, and this year, the six-time Academy Award nominee took home the Oscar, saying “Receiving this honorary Oscar is the culmination of a dream. It is mission accomplished.”

In addition to many, many other accolades, including a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Schifrin is the recipient of five BMI Awards. Congratulations, Lalo, on many jobs well done!
