Industry Spotlight: SXSW

South by Southwest 2014 is right around the corner, running from March 11-16. The multi-venue festival is the largest of its kind in the world, bringing thousands of bands to Austin, TX, for a week of nonstop music that includes more than 100 official stages and hundreds of complementary unofficial showcases. SXSW is the premier opportunity for networking and discovery for new bands, and as a part of BMI’s continued partnership with the festival and dedication to writers in early stages of their career, this year’s official BMI showcase will highlight six promising up-and-coming indie artists, ranging from electro-pop duo Cherub to alternative post-punk rockers Dear Boy. The annual event, whose alumni include Imagine Dragons and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, is set to take place on Wednesday, 3/12 at Bar 96 and is open to all festival badge and wristband holders age 21 and over.
