Indie Spotlight: The Dirty Urchins

Posted in News on August 6, 2011

The Dirty Urchins have emerged as one of New York City’s most exciting vocal-acoustic bands of the last few years. Consisting of Freddie Stevenson (vocals, guitar), Julia Haltigan (vocals, guitar), David Luther (vocals, saxophone), and Bennett Miller (vocals, acoustic bass), the Urchins perform original music—and the occasional cover—with a folky, funky, elegant sensibility, dominated by four-part harmonies and a delicious groove. Simple, yet sublime. Everyone writes, everyone sings, and everyone steps up to take the lead, providing a unique variety that congeals into solid, universal, Urchiny appeal. The band’s latest EP, “Just In Time,” is currently being expanded into a full-length album, slated for release in fall 2011.
