Eminem, Lady Antebellum Lead American Music Award Nods

Posted in News on October 14, 2010

BMI trendsetters dominate the list of American Music Awards nominees, announced earlier this week. The stars tapped also reflect the genre ambiguity of the charts, as hip-hop, rock, pop and country intermingle and inform one another. Eminem and Lady Antebellum lead with pack with five nominations each. The rapper’s accolades include Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist nominations, as well as two nods for Recovery: Favorite Pop/Rock and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album. Breakout trio Lady Antebellum’s five nominations also span multiple genres: Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group; Favorite Country Music Band, Duo or Group; and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. The band’s Need You Now was also tapped in the Favorite Country Music Album field.

B.o.B garnered three nominations, including Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist and Album for B.o.B Presents, as well as a T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist of the Year nod. Ke$ha scored three big nods as well: Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, and T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

Lady Gaga’s pop-culture punch is underscored with two nominations: Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. Carrie Underwood also earned two nominations: Favorite Country Music Female Artist and Favorite Country Music Album for Play On. Drake garnered two nods as well, including Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist and Album for Thank Me Later, while the enigmatic Sade was tapped in the Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and Album (for Soldier of Love) categories.

The fan-voted American Music Awards will be handed out live Sunday, November 21 on ABC. Devotees may cast votes for their favorites through November 12.
