Eminem Dominates 2011 Billboard Music Awards

Posted in News on May 24, 2011

Eminem dominated the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, which were handed out Sunday night live on ABC. The BMI trendsetter won six trophies: Top Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Rap Artist; Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Rap Album for Recovery; and Top Rap Song for “Love the Way You Lie.”

As BMI songwriter after BMI songwriter was called to the stage, the immense popularity of the BMI catalog was on international display.

The star-studded evening’s other BMI steamrollers included Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, who each took home three awards. Swift was named Top Billboard 200 Artist and Top Country Artist, while her release Speak Now garnered Top Country Album honors. Rihanna walked away with Top Female Artist and Top Radio Songs Artist titles, and as the featured artist on “Love the Way You Lie,” shared in Eminem’s Top Rap Song win. Lady Gaga claimed the Top Pop Artist and Top Dance Artist prizes, as well as Top Dance/Electronic Album for The Fame.

Shakira earned a pair of trophies: Top Latin Artist and Top Latin Song for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).” Game-changer will.i.am also received two awards, including one for Top R&B Song “OMG” and another for Top Duo/Group with Black Eyed Peas.

Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now,” named BMI Pop Song of the Year just last week, garnered Top Country Song honors for the trio. Neon Trees scored a Top Alternative Song win for “Animal,” while Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina’s “Stereo Love” clinched Top Dance Song, and Skillet claimed Top Christian Album honors for Awake.
