BMI presented the anticipated annual installment of its popular “How I Wrote That Song” series at the Billboard Latin Music Conference and Awards in Miami on Wednesday, April 25 at the JW Marriott Marquis. The discussion featured insight into the art and business of songwriting from hit-makers Chino & Nacho, Horacio Palencia, Gocho and Benny Camacho, moderated by Delia Orjuela, Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, Latin Music, BMI.

Throughout the event, panelists discussed everything from the significance of songwriting and creating career longevity, to the process of writing, producing and performing hit songs. Chino & Nacho shared the stories behind some of their biggest hits, and Horacio Palencia explained how emotion and life experience inspire his songwriting. Gocho discussed having hits on several different Billboard Latin charts, including tropical and pop, and the panel concluded with a live performance by Benny Camacho.

In addition to BMI’s “How I Wrote That Song” panel, the Billboard Latin Music Conference and Awards hosted countless events featuring BMI songwriters. BMI Regional Mexican trailblazer Jenni Rivera participated in a Q&A, which covered the creation of her music and many other business ventures. 2012 BMI President’s Award recipient Pitbull sat down for the “Superstar” Q&A to discuss the secrets behind his success and offer advice to up-and-comers. BMI award-winner Gerardo Ortiz and multi-talented producer/songwriter Toy Selectah also joined Del Record’s Luis del Villar for the conference’s Regional Mexican panel.
