When songwriter Denise Rich (who penned the Sister Sledge hit song “Frankie”) approached BMI six years ago with the idea to host a songwriter retreat, pairing writers beginning their careers with writers whose songs have hit the charts, a tradition between BMI and Denise Rich Songs was created. This tradition has become an annual event at the home of Denise Rich in Aspen, Colo.

Top-charting BMI songwriters attended the 2014 Aspen Songwriter Retreat, including Jason Evigan (“Talk Dirty” by Jason Derulo) who has collaborated with fellow attendee Danny Parker (“Chains” and “Teacher” by Nick Jonas), Andreas “Axident” Schuller (“Wiggle” by Jason Derulo) who has worked with Ilsey Juber (“Fireball” by Pitbull), Breyan Isaac (“Whistle” by Flo Rida and “Timber” by Kesha), Julia Michaels (“Slow Down” by Selena Gomez) and Hot Chelle Rae member writer-artist Nash Overstreet (“Tonight Tonight” and “I Like It Like That” by Hot Chelle Rae). These hitmaking songwriters, producers and artists join an illustrious group of previous attendees, including songwriters Bonnie McKee, Tim Pagnotta, Julian Bunetta, Nasri, Luke Laird and Makeba Riddick, among others.
