For the 30th year, Broadcast Music, Inc. continued its annual tradition of presenting the Cardozo/BMI Entertainment and Communications Law Moot Court Competition, held March 6 – March 9, 2014, at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City. Kicking off the competition was BMI’s Joe DiMona, Vice President, Legal Affairs, who gave the keynote speech at a pre-event networking reception. In his speech, DiMona talked about BMI’s role, while pointing out challenges and issues facing copyright owners in the digital age, including the matter of fair use.

Providing sponsorships for the winning participants, this year BMI congratulates Seton Hall University, which took the 2014 first place prize. In addition to the students from Seton Hall, law students from dozens of schools – including the University of California, Hastings, New York University and Georgia State – channeled their talents to hone in on intellectual property law, the focus of the competition.
