BMI Writers Make History at the 2019 Billboard Latin Awards

BMI is exceptionally proud of its many songwriters who took to the stage last night at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas to claim their rightfully earned accolades for some of the most exciting and important Latin music of the past year. Cementing his already impressive status, Ozuna took home eleven separate awards last night, most notable among them the prestigious Artist of The Year award. Not only was this the second consecutive time Ozuna’s earned this honor, he also garnered the distinction of becoming the biggest winner in a single year in the awards’ 25-year history.  One of the most touching and talked about moments of the ceremony happened when superstar Juan Luis Guerra, was honored a lifetime achievement tribute by his peers, which celebrated his career.

Other notable winners from the evening included Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga, who won Regional Mexican Artist of the Year, Duo or Group,Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group, CNCO, who earned Latin Pop Artist of the Year, Duo or Group, Latin Pop Album of the Year, and Latin Rhythm Artist of the Year, Duo or Group, and Shakira, who took home awards for Top Latin Albums Artists of the Year, Female and Latin Pop Artist of the Year, Solo. ”X,” J Balvin’s collaboration with Nicky Jam, was named Airplay Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year, while Te Boté,” written by Ozuna, Vicente Saavedra and Jose Velazquez, was named Hot Latin Song of the Year, Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event and Streaming Song of the Year.\ Beyond celebrating this year’s remarkable array of songwriting talent, the evening featured spellbinding performances by J Balvin, Luis Fonsi, CNCO, Ozuna, Wisin and many more for a rousing evening of song and celebration.
