BMI composers Dara Taylor, Ronit Kirchman, Karin Okada and Nami Melumad were four of ten female composers whose work was featured at the “Women Composers in Media” concert held on Sunday, October 30, at The Ebell of Los Angles. The concert, which was cosponsored by BMI, was presented by Women Composers in Media in association with the Women in Film International Committee and Women in Film Music Committee. Its purpose was to raise awareness and celebrate the immense talent and skill of female composers while honoring the extraordinary career of groundbreaking composer Deborah Lurie. The live to picture performances, which were conducted by the composers themselves alongside the renowned LA-based ensemble Helix Collective, included Taylor’s piece from the film Leftovers, Kirchman’s suite from The Skin I’m In, Okada’s Revenge Flame of Hayabusa and Melumad’s score for Sol and Rain.
