BMI Remembers GRAMMY-Nominated Songwriter and Producer Tay Keith

BMI was deeply saddened by the passing of Tay Keith, the GRAMMY-nominated songwriter and producer whose sound helped define a generation of hip-hop.

A Memphis native, Keith became one of music’s most impactful hitmakers, working with artists like Beyoncé, Eminem, Drake, Travis Scott, and Lil Baby. His success was felt across the charts, with 11 Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and four No. 1 records, including Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” and Drake’s “First Person Shooter.” As both a songwriter and producer, Keith created songs that connected with fans, artists and the industry, earning GRAMMY nominations for Best Rap Song in 2019 for “Sicko Mode” and again in 2024 for “Rich Flex” by Drake and 21 Savage. Keith’s impact went beyond major collaborations as he helped elevate rising and regional talent, including Sexyy Red, BlocBoy JB and Blac Youngsta, while bringing Memphis’ creative energy to a global audience.

Along with his prolific success in rap and hip-hop, Keith expanded into country music through his label and creative hub, DRUMATIZED, which created space for emerging and established artists to collaborate across genres. That same commitment to connection shaped his partnership with BMI on a 2024 Creative Community Connector designed to bring together Nashville’s hip-hop and country music communities.

BMI recognized Keith throughout his career, honoring him three times as Producer of the Year, as well as Songwriter of the Year, and Top Producer at the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards. His BMI Award-winning songs include “Sicko Mode,” “Nonstop” and “First Person Shooter.”

Tay Keith leaves behind a singular legacy as a hitmaker and champion of the next generation of music creators. He will be missed by his friends, fans and family at BMI.
