BMI Remembers American Roots Legend Todd Snider

Posted in News on November 17, 2025

BMI was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of longtime affiliate Todd Snider. He was 59.

Snider built a remarkable career as a singer/songwriter whose genre-defying music blended folk, rock, roots, blues, alt country, and funk. His 1994 debut album, Songs for the Daily Planet, featured hit single “Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues” and introduced his signature blend of humor and social commentary.

Throughout his career, Snider was celebrated for several albums including East Nashville Skyline (2004), The Devil You Know (2006), and Live: The Storyteller (2011), as well as songs such as “Alright Guy,” “Play a Train Song,” and “The Ballad of the Kingsmen,” which have been covered by numerous artists from Mark Chesnutt and Willie Braun to Tom Jones. He collaborated with music legends such as John Prine and Jerry Jeff Walker, and he created and fronted the jam band supergroup Hard Working Americans.

Snider’s singular impact on the music industry was further recognized through his induction into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2021 and nominations for the Americana Honors & Awards. He will be greatly missed by his friends, fans, and family at BMI.
