BMI Latin Spotlight: Ryan Castro

Ryan Castro overcame many challenges growing up in the Pedregal neighborhood of Medellín, Colombia, where he would rap on public buses to help feed his family. His lifelong love of music, especially rap, Hip-hop, free-style and dancehall, lead him to performing covers of Kafu Banton, Baroni One Time and a few of his original compositions. Before breaking with his single “Morena” in 2017, Castro ived in Curazao, where he further honed his love of Reggae and Dancehall. By 2020, after a series of singles like “Entre Nos,” “Miami,” and “Cositas Al Oído,” Castro had cultivated a broad audience and began achieving recognition in the Andean region with “Lejanía.” He catapulted to international fame in 2021 with his hit single, “Mujeriego,” followed by “Jordan,” which both entered the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts, in addition to placing on Spotify Top 50 Global for several weeks. Subsequently, Castro released various hit singles, including “Wasa Wasa,” “Malory” and “Monastery,” that led Castro to become the leader of the new generation of Reggaeton in Colombia. Since then, he’s signed a distribution deal with Sony Music, won a Heat Latin Music Award for Best New Artist, earned two nominations at Premios Juventud, released two EPS and made his US television debut at the MTV Video Music Awards alongside J Balvin. Building further momentum, his current single “Quema” with Peso Pluma has become a certified 2x Platinum smash.

Su amor de siempre por la música, en particular el rap, hip-hop, free-style y dancehall, lo llevaron a colaborar con Kafu Banton, Baroni One Time e interpretar unas cuantas composiciones propias. Después de sacar el sencillo “Morena” en 2017, Castro vivió en Curazao, donde se siguió enamorando del reggae y dancehall. Para 2020, tras varios singles como “Entre nos”, “Miami” y “Cositas al oído”, Castro cultivó una extensa audiencia y empezó a ser reconocido en la región andina por “Lejanía”. Alcanzó la fama internacional en 2021 con su exitosa canción “Mujeriego”, seguida por “Jordan”, as que se incluyeron en la Billboard Global 200 y Global Excl. US, además de figurar en Spotify Top 50 Global varias semanas. Luego Castro sacó varios exitosos singles, entre ellos “Wasa Wasa”, “Malory” y “Monastery”, que lo convirtieron en un líder de la nueva generación de reguetón en Colombia. Desde entonces ha suscrito un acuerdo de distribución con Sony Music, ganado un Heat Latin Music Award por Mejor Artista Nuevo, logrado dos nominaciones al Premios Juventud, sacado dos EP y hecho su debut en la televisión estadounidense, en MTV Video Music Awards, de lado de J Balvin. Para continuar su impulso, su actual sencillo “Quema” con Peso Pluma es un exitazo con dos certificaciones Platino.
