BMI Latin Spotlight: Carla Morrison
GRAMMY-nominated and three-time Latin GRAMMY-winning artist Carla Morrison has amassed millions of streams and sold-out shows around the world. The Tecate, Baja California-born musician cultivated a cult following and large critical acclaim through her unique approach to music. Her rise came from the success of her 2010 EP Mientras Tú Dormías, onto 2012’s Déjenme Llorar and then the 2016 release of Amor Supremo, which earned her multiple GRAMMY noms and Latin GRAMMY wins. Most recently, she was featured on projects by Ricky Martin, J Balvin and Nicky Jam, the latter of which sampled her song “Disfruto” on his track “Desahogo.” In April 2022, Carla released her highly anticipated album, El Renacimiento. Although her style was still rooted in her acoustic-heavy sound, the project showcased her ability to venture into a larger pop realm with versatility and depth. With over 50 million streams within the first three weeks of release, the album arrived to worldwide critical acclaim and was lauded by The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, Billboard and others. Carla most recently released “Todo Fue Por Amor,” which is on the soundtrack of the film Con Esta Luz (With This Light). This past August, Carla performed at the legendary Hollywood Bowl and made an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America to promote her music.
