BMI Indie Spotlight: Appleby
Before pursuing music, Justin Burns, professionally known as Appleby, trained at tennis academies and competed worldwide, until injuries and burnout led him to a new passion – music. Bringing an athlete mentality to his new craft, Appleby quickly increased his musical skills and connections in the industry, surrounding himself with the likes of Chance The Rapper, Saba, Ravyn, and more within the Chicago music scene. Now an established Los Angeles-based creator, Appleby has carved out a warm, introspective sound that blends R&B, alternative, electronic pop and adult alternative, pairing soft vocals and ambient production with vulnerable, mood-driven songwriting. He recently wrapped his first headline tour in China, went viral with “Without You,” and is set to release “YOU” in early July ahead of a forthcoming EP later this summer.
