This year’s Ivor Novello Awards with Amazon Music, held at Grosvenor House in London on Thursday May 18, 2023, had several of BMI’s most talented affiliates taking top honors. Representing the most impactful accomplishments in songwriting and composing, the prestigious awards are presented to music creators by their peers from within the United Kingdom.

Sting received the Fellowship of The Ivors Academy, the highest honour the Academy bestows. With over 100 million albums sold throughout his career from his combined work with The Police and as a solo artist, Sting is one of Britain’s most successful, accomplished, and pioneering songwriters. Among his countless accolades like the BMI London Icon Award in 2016, he has won seven Ivor Novellos, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. He joins an illustrious list of Fellows that includes Kate Bush CBE and Joan Armatrading MBE.

KAMILLE’s impressive body of work was recognized with the Outstanding Song Collection award. KAMILLE has built a career as one of Britain’s most successful songwriters, working with artists such as Mabel, Sia, Dua Lipa and, most famously, Little Mix, for whom she wrote over 30 songs including the number one hits “Black Magic” and “Shout Out To My Ex.” On top of her songwriting achievements, she has also launched a career as an artist in her own right.

Best Contemporary Song went to Raye, 070 Shake and Mike Sabath for “Escapism” – which Raye performed live at the awards ceremony. Described by the judges as daring, brave and empowering songwriting, the track found huge success after going viral on TikTok, marking Raye’s first ever number one single and album in the UK. RAYE was chosen as the recipient for BMI London’s Impact Award back in 2019 so we are so proud to continue to call her BMI family.

Best Album goes to 11 by SAULT, written by Dean “Inflo” Josiah Cover, Jamar McNaughton, Cleopatra Nikolic and Jack Peñate. Drawing from Afrobeat and blues influences, 11 was one of five critically acclaimed albums released for free simultaneously by SAULT in November 2022. Dean “Inflo” Josiah Cover’s win marks the significant achievement of his fourth Ivor Novello Award. Previously a recipient of BMI London’s 2021 Champion Award, Dean “Inflo” Josiah Cover, was one of this year’s most nominated songwriters.

Congratulations to all, we’re so proud to represent your music in the States! Here is the full list of BMI winners:
