BMI Congratulates its 2021 Ivors With Apple Music Award Winners

Posted in News on September 22, 2021

The 66th presentation of The Ivors With Apple Music Awards, held at Grosvenor House, London, on Tuesday, September 21, revealed the names of several of BMI’s most talented affiliates as winners across the globe. Representing the most impactful accomplishments in songwriting and composing, the prestigious awards are presented to music creators by their peers from within the United Kingdom.

Highlights included Willow Kayne* winning the Rising Star With Apple Music Award, which is given to young British and Irish talent demonstrating exceptional potential and ambition. As a part of the nomination process, she was paired with her mentor and BMI Icon, Nile Rodgers. BMI is honoured that Willow gave a special shoutout to the company in her acceptance speech.

Winner of the ‘Best Original Game Score’ for Ori and The Will of the Wisps, Gareth Coker, originally joined the BMI family after he received the BMI Student Bursary Award in 2006. Coker walked across the road from the neighbouring Royal Academy of Music and signed up with BMI the same day, making us immensely proud to know our support for up-and-coming composers, songwriters and producers goes a long way at the beginning of their careers.

In addition, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith also graced the stage following their win for ‘Outstanding Song Collection.’ At the BMI London Awards in 2020, Tears for Fears’ hit song “Everybody Wants to Rule The World” was recognized for 8 million radio spins in the U.S.

Lastly, Songwriter of the Year went to Celeste and Jamie Hartman, who are responsible for hits such as “Stop This Flame,” “I Can See the Change,” and the John Lewis Christmas Advert sync “A Little Love.” In an interview Celeste did for BMI, she explains more about their creative relationship: “I worked with Jamie for the first time about 3 years ago and haven’t stopped since. What I found with Jamie is that he allows me to have my own voice within the music we make when we collaborate. I think having that sensitivity is so important when collaborating with an artist as a co-writer, and Jamie is very respectful of that.”

Congratulations to all our winners! We’re so proud to represent your music in the U.S.!
