BMI Celebrates Hip-Hop History Month

Posted in News on November 1, 2021

As designated by the U.S. Senate in a unanimously passed resolution this past August, November is now officially Hip-Hop History Month, and BMI is excited to be celebrating the massive cultural force that Hip-Hop has become. As an early champion of the then-burgeoning genre, BMI is proud to represent groundbreaking songwriters, rappers, DJs and producers like Run-DMC, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, OutKast, Lil Kim, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Too Short, Kendrick Lamar and so many other innovative artists whose vision forged the direction of the genre from its humble roots at the block parties in the Bronx to dominating the airwaves, digital platforms and concert stages around the world. Albums like Paid In Full, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, 3 Feet High and Rising, Doggystyle, Illmatic, The Slim Shady LP, Late Registration, Aquemini, To Pimp a Butterfly and other classics have become iconic touchstones for legions of fans and inspired new generations of envelope-pushing music creators like Future, Young Thug, Bia, Migos, Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion and countless others who are continuing to move Hip-Hop forward.

Throughout November, BMI will be highlighting special features, in-depth interviews, dynamic playlists and videos on our website and our social media platforms that showcase our Hip-Hop affiliates whose music has enriched the culture.
