BMI Brings How I Wrote That Song® to The Dot Connector Industry Series in Atlanta
BMI was thrilled to bring its signature series How I Wrote That Song® to Atlanta on Wednesday, June 4, as part of The Dot Connector industry series, a curated music and technology experience designed to bridge the gap between creators, industry professionals and emerging talent across Atlanta and South Africa. Held at the SAGE Discovery Center at Ponce City Market, the panel was moderated by BMI’s Executive Director, Byron Wright, who guided attendees through an inside look at the songwriting process: from concept to finished record. Panel participants included GRAMMY Award-winning writer and producer Troy Taylor, GRAMMY Award-winning producer Carlos “Los Da Mystro” McKinney, and GRAMMY-winning multi-platinum producer Zaytoven, who shared stories of creative collaboration and publishing insights behind some of their biggest hits.
The trio walked the audience through standout hits and fan favorites: Troy Taylor spoke on “Sweet Lady” (Tyrese), “Neighbors Know My Name” (Trey Songz) and “Say Aah” (Trey Songz); Carlos McKinney on “Bed” (J Holiday), “Shawty Is A 10” (The-Dream), “I Invented Sex” (Trey Songz feat Drake) and Zaytoven on “Icy” (Gucci Mane & Jeezy), “Papers” (Usher) and “Versace” (Migos).
The conversation drew a diverse audience of emerging artists, songwriters and producers, music business students and educators, tech professionals and creatives, and general attendees eager for a firsthand look at music creation and the industry behind it.
