A BMI Video Event: A Conversation with BMI Icon Nile Rodgers

Posted in News on August 27, 2015

BMI’s Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations Catherine Brewton recently sat down with the mastermind behind some of the best and most important dance music of all time and the architect of the most iconic pop anthems of the past 40 years – Nile Rodgers – for an exclusive video interview. In it, Rodgers, who is being honored at this year’s R&B/Hip-Hop Awards as a BMI Icon, talks about what music means to him, the upcoming release of his new CHIC album and the making of some of his groundbreaking hits.

During his spectacular career, Rodgers won 3 GRAMMYs, 17 BMI Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award and Heroes Award from the New York chapter of the Recording Academy, as well as the Ivor Novello “Special International Award,” among many other accolades. He’s worked with music legends including Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, The B-52s, Madonna, David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Grace Jones, Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, Bryan Ferry, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, and INXS, to name a few. Today, he’s collaborating with Avicii, Sam Smith, Cara Delevingne, Duran Duran, Pharell Williams, Daft Punk, Keith Urban and Beck, among many others. The list of Rodgers’ achievements go on, yet the composer, producer, arranger and guitarist, who has shaped, and continues to shape the world of popular music, remains a humble genius.
