‘Penguins’ March to the Beat of Wurman’s Score

Posted in News on August 7, 2005

BMI and the Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) presented a special screening of Warner Independent Pictures & National Geographic Feature Films surprise summer hit, March of the Penguins, in honor of composer Alex Wurman's original score. His soulful melodies and ethereal orchestrations give voice to the characters of this charming documentary, which chronicles a year in the life of the Emperor penguin as they migrate, mate, and raise their young in the most desolate place on Earth.

Shown prior to the screening are agent Seth Kaplan, SCL Executive Director Laura Dunn, Q&A moderator/BMI composer Christopher Farrell, BMI's Doreen Ringer Ross, BMI composer Alex Wurman, Music Editor Ellen Sagel, BMI's Linda Livingston and agent Christine Russell.

An emotional tale of life and death in Antarctica, March of the Penguins is directed by noted documentarian Luc Jacquet and narrated by actor Morgan Freeman.

The screening ended with a Q&A session with Wurman, whose other credits include A Lot Like Love, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy, Hollywood Homicide, Confessions of Dangerous Mind, and Thirteen Conversations About One Thing.
