Jason McCoy, Doc Walker Lead 2004 CCMA Nominations

With five nominations each, Jason McCoy (SOCAN) and Doc Walker (SOCAN) are the leading contenders for the annual Canadian Country Music Association Awards show. McCoy's mentions include Male Artist, Fans Choice Award, Best Album (Sins, Lies and Angels), Best CMT Video and Best Song ("Still"). Doc Walker received nods for Best Group or Duo, Fans' Choice Award, Best Album (Everyone Aboard) and the group's song "The Show Is Free" is named in both the Best Single and Song of the Year categories.

Earning four mentions are Best Album and Rising Star Award nominee Aaron Pritchett (SOCAN), who adds Independent Male Artist and Independent Song to his list. Also claiming spots in four categories is Beverley Mahood (SOCAN) who is up for Female Artist, Independent Female Artist, Independent Song and Best Single ("The First Day [You Wake Up Alone]"). CCMA Awards show host Paul Brandt earned three nods, along with Fans' Choice hopeful Shania Twain and Independent Group or Duo aspirants The Corb Lund Band (SOCAN). Other nominees include Lisa Brokop (SOCAN), Gil Grand (SOCAN), Keith Urban, Toby Keith, Sean Hogan (SOCAN), Kathleen Edwards (SOCAN), David Lee, Tara Lyn Hart (SOCAN) and Jeremy Campbell.

The 2004 CCMA Awards close the annual Country Music Week conference, which takes place this year in Edmonton, Alberta September 10-13, as part of that city's 100th birthday celebrations. The September 13 awards show will be broadcast live from Rexall Place on CBC Television and in the US on CMT.
