“Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)” Named Song of the Year; Capitol CMG Publishing Earns Publisher of the Year
Mark Hall, Brandon Heath, Aaron Lindsey, Matt Maher, TobyMac, and Chris Tomlin Named Songwriters of the Year

NASHVILLE, June 18, 2014 – Broadcast Music, Inc.® (BMI)®, a global leader in music rights management, honored the top songs played on Christian radio during the past year at the 2014 BMI Christian Awards, held last night at BMI’s Nashville offices on Music Row. The annual awards ceremony saluted the songwriters and publishers of the past year’s most performed Christian rock, contemporary Christian, inspirational, southern and urban gospel songs on U.S. Christian radio.

“I’m always amazed by the inspirational stories these songs provide to fans of Christian music and beyond,” said Jody Williams, BMI’s Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations. “BMI is honored to represent the stakeholders of these meaningful copyrights.”

The invitation-only event kicked off with performances by Christian artist and American Idol finalist Danny Gokey, as well as talented up-and-comer Jon Guerra.

Songwriter of the Year winners included Mark Hall (“Already There,” “Jesus, Friend Of Sinners”), Aaron Lindsey (“It’s Not Over [When God Is In It],” “My Testimony”), TobyMac (“Steal My Show,” “You Lead”), Brandon Heath (“Jesus in Disguise,” “Steal My Show”), Matt Maher (“Lord, I Need You,” “White Flag”) and Chris Tomlin (“Whom Shall I Fear [God of Angel Armies],” “White Flag”).

Songwriter of the Year winner Chris Tomlin also earned his first Christian Song of the Year honor for “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies),” which was co-written by Ed Cash and Scott Cash, and published by Alletrop Music, McTyeire Music, S.D.G. Publishing, sixsteps Songs, and Worship Together Music.

With the highest percentage of copyright ownership among the year’s most-performed songs, Capitol CMG Publishing took home the Christian Publisher of the Year win.

Williams and BMI Director, Writer/Publisher Relations, Leslie Roberts, served as the evening’s hosts. See a complete list of the 2014 BMI Christian Awards winners.
