‘American Picker’ Turns Songwriter: Mike Wolfe Joins BMI

July 11, 2011 Nashville’s creative boon keeps on booming: Mike Wolfe, perhaps best known for his role in the History Channel’s American Pickers, owns a home in Nashville and recently opened the second of his Antique Archeology retail stores in Music City—the first is in LeClair, Iowa. Writer Linda Dyer introduced Wolfe to legendary producer Brian Ahern at the latter’s Nashville studio. Embracing the spirit of Wolfe’s wildly successful television series, Ahern dreamed up the project “Music to Pick By.” During one of the project’s songlist collaborations, BMI singer/songwriter Dale Watson ranked high on Wolfe’s road playlist. The rest, as they say, is history: Ahern brought Watson and Wolfe together, supervising a spirited songwriting session. Four hours later, three new songs were recorded, and Nashville—and BMI—had a new songwriter. Pictured are Wolfe, Ahern and BMI’s Jody Williams.
