April 6, 2010 BMI’s Jody Williams recently honored Jim Beavers with a surprise presentation during the March 25 installment of the CMA Songwriters Series at Joe’s Pub. The esteemed hitmaker’s “Watching Airplanes,” recorded by Gary Allan, and “Don’t,” recorded by Billy Currington, have each generated more than one million performances. Beavers, who performed in the show’s lineup along with Bob DiPiero, Dierks Bentley, and David Lee Murphy, is also the pen behind hits including “Trying to Stop Your Leaving,” “Sideways,” and Josh Turner’s recent chart-topper “Why Don’t We Just Dance.”
