BMI staffers recently visited T-Pain in Atlanta’s Crossover Studios for a belated celebration of a glittering career milestone: Thanks to his compositions “Kiss Kiss” and “Low,” T-Pain garnered the 2009 BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year crown. While most of his peers were honored at the 57th annual BMI Pop Awards on Tuesday, May 19 in Los Angeles, T-Pain had more pressing business to which he needed to attend: He was taking the month off to spend time with his wife and new baby.

T-Pain shares the Songwriter of the Year title with a record-breaking seven other top-shelf hit-makers, including Colbie Caillat, Polow Da Don, Alan Chang, Matchbox Twenty’s Paul Doucette and Brian Yale, Chris Brown, and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine.
