Indie Spotlight: Alex Winston

Posted in News on October 5, 2010

Recent New York City transplant Alex Winston carries hometown Detroit with her. At about 16 and with encouragement from both her mom and her dad, she began playing venues and knocking on doors, soaking up her city’s rich sonic history even as she mingled with other members of its promising musical future. Winston proudly records most of her music on GarageBand “between 1 and 5 a.m.,” and to-date, her proudest artistic moment came when she opened for rock-and-roll architect Chuck Berry in St. Louis.

Alex Winston will play CMJ.
Neon Gold Party / Thursday, Oct. 21 / Public Assembly / 4:30 p.m.
NME Showcase / Saturday, Oct. 23 / Delancey / 11 p.m.
