Famed BMI Songwriter Mike Stoller and Wife Corky Hale Stoller “Stand By” Project Angel Food

Posted in News on May 11, 2016

Mike Stoller, one-half of the legendary BMI songwriting team of Leiber and Stoller, who are responsible for Ben E. King’s megahit “Stand By Me,” along with his acclaimed jazz musician wife, Corky Hale Stoller, have a history of coming to the rescue of organizations in need. Project Angel Food in Los Angeles is the latest recipient of their generosity.

Delivering 496,306 meals a year to 1,200 clients throughout LA County has taken its toll on several of the organization’s vans. During the holidays, Project Angel Food sent out an appeal to replace a van that had logged more than 120,000 miles. Mike and Corky, who say they have been blessed with good fortune and want to share it, donated the entire $40,000 for a brand new, eco-friendly van. The incredibly talented and generous couple are being honored at a van dedication ceremony Monday, May 16, at 2:30 pm at Project Angel Food located at 922 Vine St in Los Angeles.

In addition to “Stand By Me,” Stoller also brought us several of the other biggest hits of our time, including “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Is That All There Is.” Currently, he is involved with reprising his hit Broadway show Smokey Joe’s Cafe: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller. His wife is producing the musical I Only Have Eyes For You: The Life And Lyrics of Al Dubin with previews starting May 10, opening May 13, and running through June 12, at the Montalban Theater in Hollywood.   For more information about Project Angel Food, visit www.angelfood.org.
