The International Bluegrass Music Association has announced nominees for the 2010 International Bluegrass Music Awards, and BMI songwriters, artists and musicians lead the list. The prestigious trophies will be handed out Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, during World of Bluegrass week, September 27 – October 3.

Reigning two-time Entertainers of the Year Dailey & Vincent earned an impressive 10 nominations, including Entertainer, Vocal Group and Album of the Year for their acclaimed Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers, as well as Song (“Elizabeth”), Recorded Event (“Give This Message to Your Heart” with Larry Stephenson) and Gospel Recorded Event (“Don’t You Wanna Go to Heaven”). Jamie Dailey also earned an individual Male Vocalist nod, while Darrin Vincent will vie in the Bass Player field.

Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out follow with six nominations, including Entertainer, Song [“Hard Rock Mountain Prison (‘Till I Die)],” and Album of the Year for IIIrd Tyme Out. Moore was also tapped in the Male Vocalist of the Year category.

Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper and Sam Bush both garnered five nods. Seven-time Fiddle Player of the Year Michael Cleveland is up for yet another run at that title, while he and the band will compete for Entertainer, Instrumental Group, Bass Player (Marshall Wilborn) and Mandolin Player (Jesse Brock) of the Year. Newgrasser Sam Bush and his band are up for Instrumental Group of the Year, Instrumental Recorded Performance (“Blue Mountain”), Mandolin Player of the Year, and Song of the Year for “The Ballad of Stringbean and Estelle,” which Bush co-wrote. The group’s latest release Circles Around Me also earned an Album of the Year nod.

The Gibson Brothers, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and Del McCoury Band each received three nods.

Legendary BMI songwriter and influential banjo and fiddle player John Hartford will be inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, as will the late Louise Scruggs, the wife of BMI pioneer Earl Scruggs who forged an unprecedented path as business manager of Flatt & Scruggs, The Earl Scruggs Revue and Earl Scruggs Family & Friends.
