Congressional Support for Songwriters Widens

Congressman Jim Cooper (D-TN-5) (@repjimcooper) joined lead Democratic co-sponsor, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-8) (@RepJeffries), in support of H.R. 1283, the Songwriter Equity Act of 2015. Congressman Cooper, long an advocate for music creators, said, “I am a strong supporter of intellectual property rights and rights-holders and believe that intellectual property laws need reevaluating when significant new technologies reach the marketplace.” A bipartisan bill, the SEA was reintroduced by Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-9) (@RepDougCollins) on March 4 of this year.
