Broadcast Music, Inc. songwriters and composers enjoyed several spectacular moments at the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, January 26, 2014. Multiple wins were given to Best New Artist sensations Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who performed the show-stopping “Same Love,” which was one of the evening’s most memorable highlights. Daft Punk, Nile Rodgers and Kacey Musgraves also enjoyed multiple trophies, including the coveted Album and Record of the Year for Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers and Best Country Album and Song for Musgraves. In addition, BMI’s Jazz constituents swept all of the awards in the Jazz categories.

An important new recognition in support of promoting music in schools was added this year, with a GRAMMY awarded to Music Educator of the Year. Teacher Kent Knappenberger of Westfield Academy and Central School in Westfield, New York, earned the coveted trophy. Read about Mr. Knappenberger’s tie with BMI here.
